Geisha Fish 2.0

It would appear that my GI tract is still… iffy. Painfully iffy. So all I can do is illustrate and hope it goes away. Maybe I’ll go to the doctor soon. Maybe.

Based on a multimedia piece I did many years ago in college, I decided to revisit the idea of a geisha koi with my new vector/illustrative abilities.

Rocket Mountain

I’ve been feeling rather ill lately, and I can’t seem to muster up a whole bunch of creativity. In an effort to relax between trips to the bathroom, I decided to make a new brush in Photoshop and make something out of random shapes and strokes.

Fanart: Catbus!

A friend of mine, Michael May of Common Name Films recently saw the Hayao Miyazaki classic My Neighbor Totoro and drew an adorable sleeping catbus! Shortly after, he asked for others to join the catbus fray, and I decided to answer the call with a quick vector sketch.

Making Room

It’s awesome doing large-scale projects, but finding a place to put all of the artwork after the fact is a great big pain in the ass. Unfortunately, a lot of the larger apsects of the Legend of En exhibit were torn down and repurposed, or dumped haphazardly in our upstairs studio. Fortunately, Brent had the awesome (and slightly dangerous) idea of hanging one of the larger murals we made above the stairs!

Fanarts!

Lara Croft was my idol as I was growing up, and I still find myself obsessively playing Tomb Raider whenever I get a little downtime. This is a little fanart tribute to my favorite video game leading lady:

And this is the in-progress vector illustration:

Pinup Sketches

I love drawing pinups. It seems like everyone’s drawing them, but I find myself doing it subconsciously when I’m thinking about other things. Or maybe I just fawn over pinup art the most when I’m looking for a little inspiration…

I’ll probably do these up real quick in Illustrator just so I can say that I finished something. Yeah!

Painting with Illustrator

demongirl-face

After many years of neglecting the use of traditional media, I find myself searching for ways to emulate the feel of traditional media using digital tools. The more I do this, however, the more I yearn for the toxic fumes, the caustic liquids and the brain-sac-dissolving smells that hearken back to my days of oil painting and printmaking. I’m going to dive back into traditional media someday soon (acrylics, most likely… I’m rather proud of the solidity of my brain sac), but until then, I’ve been doing some research into using programs in ways they weren’t intended to be used. This search has yielded some pretty rich illustrations and digital paintings.

Excellent examples of people using digital programs in new and unusual ways are LimKis and Andrew Jones. Awesome

Okapi Centaur v.1.0

okapi-centaur-011

While this particular illustration isn’t quite finished, I thought I’d bring it to a proto-state of completion to show off to the world \o/

This is  one-of-three in a series of African animal inspired centaur illustrations that I’m doing for the hell of it. Next up: giraffe and zebra!

Watch me in ACTION

I finally got around to working on that Okapi Centaur sketch today (primarily to procrastinate from other things I was supposed to be doing). I am vectorizing it, because vectors are awesome and fast. \o/

Snap, it’s the new year!

2010 is gonna be awesome.
